Ministry of Tourism organises maiden High-altitude Marathon at Kargil

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has organised the first-ever ‘High-altitude Incredible India Kargil Half Marathon’ in collaboration with the administration of UT Ladakh, LAHDC Kargil and Ladakh Tourism on 24th July 2022.
The Marathon was organised as a tribute to the Kargil War Heroes. The Incredible India Kargil Marathon (Half-21Kms) was flagged off from Khree Sultan Choo Stadium, Kargil by Firoz Ahmed Khan, Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC-Kargil.
The Marathon saw the participation of over 300 runners from across the country. There were a few participants coming in from neighbouring Bangladesh too.
Anil Oraw, Regional Director (North), Ministry of Tourism welcomed all participants for the one-of-its-kind event. The participants, all young and old, ran for 5 kms/ 10 Kms/ 21 Kms amidst the wonderful locale of Suru Valley.
The participants included army personnel, students, senior citizens, and a few prominent personalities like the actor from Ladakh Phunshuk Ladakhi, 78 year-old Elina Chakraborty from Meghalaya, among others.
Mehboob Ali Khan, Secretary Ladakh Tourism and other dignitaries also attended the event which saw unique events like horses accompanying the runners along the way.
