IHCL enters in Meghalaya with Vivanta Shilong, slated to open in mid-2020

With this announcement, IHCL has four hotels in four states of the North East – Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Tripura.

In close proximity to prominent landmarks of the city from both, a tourist and business point of view, Vivanta Shillong is strategically located at Police Bazar. The hotel will comprise 100 well-furnished guest rooms and other features include multi-cuisine restaurants, recreation facilities and modern meeting spaces. RDM Design SdnBhd, Kuala Lumpur are the interior designers of the hotel. It is a Brownfield project slated to open in mid-2020.
This hotel is a management contract with Aura Hotels and Resorts Private Limited. The company is a part of the Guwahati-based SM Group – a diversified business group with operations in Assam, Meghalaya and West Bengal. The group has interests in steel trading, coal processing, construction and real estate.
“The signing of Vivanta Shillong is in line with Aspiration 2022 and its domestic expansion strategy of consolidating presence in key capital cities. This signing also demonstrates our commitment to North East India. Expressing his view on this venture, Vikas Agarwal, Managing Director, Aura Hotels and Resorts Private Limited said: “We are delighted that through this association with the pioneers of the Indian hospitality industry, we are introducing the Vivanta brand to Shillong. This will be the first branded hotel in Shillong.”
Shillong is a hill station in the north eastern part of India and the capital of the state of Meghalaya. It is called the ‘Scotland of the East’ or the ‘Rock Capital of India’. It has been selected as one of the cities under the Government’s ‘Smart City’ programme. Shillong is a two and a half hour scenic drive from the international airport at Guwahati in Assam.
