Rakesh Verma joins Ministry of Tourism as Joint Secretary

Rakesh Verma has been appointed as the Joint Secretary at Ministry of Tourism Government of India. An alumnus of IIT Delhi, he is a 1993 batch IAS Officer of Punjab Cadre. He has pursued B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering. He has been appointed for a tenure of five years or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
He has taken over the post from Suman Billa, 1996-Batch Officer of Kerala cadre. Billa has joined United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) as the Director technical cooperation and silk road development at D1 level, at its headquarters in Madrid, Spain.
Verma has also held posts like Principal Secretary, Department of Science, Technology & Environment, Government of Punjab; Secretary, Medical Education and Research; Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana, Managing Director of Punjab ICT Corporation (Punjab Infotech), Deputy Commissioner, Patiala and Kapurthala. He has also held the Directorial post at Department of Technical Education and Transport Department.
