Excerpts of the one-on-one conversation.

Q. How important and significant is this event for the segment?
A.
Buddhist Tourism holds tremendous potential for the Indian subcontinent. With its rich historical and cultural ties to Buddhism, the region can attract spiritual seekers, scholars, and tourists. Developing and promoting Buddhist sites can significantly contribute to the tourism sector, fostering economic growth and cultural exchange.
Q. How do you look at the potential of Buddhist Tourism?
A.
The worldwide Buddhist population taking pilgrimages is diverse, with followers from various countries undertaking journeys to significant Buddhist sites. Exact numbers are challenging to quantify, but millions of Buddhists embark on pilgrimages annually. Countries with substantial Buddhist populations, such as Thailand, China, Japan, and Sri Lanka, contribute significantly to pilgrimage activities.
Pilgrims often visit key sites like Bodh Gaya, Lumbini, and others mentioned earlier. The pilgrimage serves as a spiritual quest, allowing believers to deepen their understanding of Buddhism, gain insights from sacred locations, and connect with the global Buddhist community. The popularity of Buddhist pilgrimages underscores the universal appeal and influence of Buddhist teachings.
Q. What are your suggestions to expedite the growth of this segment?
A.
To expedite growth in the Buddhist Tourism sector, focus on:
Infrastructure Development: Enhance accessibility and amenities at key Buddhist sites.
Promotion and Marketing: Implement targeted global campaigns to raise awareness and attract a diverse audience.
Sustainable Practices: Prioritize eco-friendly initiatives for long-term environmental and cultural preservation.
Collaboration: Foster partnerships between governments, local communities, and private sectors to ensure comprehensive development.
Cultural Experiences: Enrich visitor experiences by promoting cultural events, workshops, and interactions with local communities.
Digital Presence: Leverage technology for virtual tours, online resources, and easy booking, catering to modern travellers.
By addressing these aspects, the sector can experience accelerated growth and sustained success.
